2. Mysore derived its name from an anglicized version of Mahishuru. It means the abode of Mahisha. Mysore stands for "Mahishasura", a demon from Hindu Mythology.
3. Mysore also has beautiful lakes flowing through it. This would include the Lingambudhi, Karanji and Kukkarahalli Lake.
4. Situated 770m above sea level, Mysore has a warm and cool climate throughout the year.
5. Mysore is famous for carved sandalwood, pure silk sarees and incense. The best place to shop is the Cauvery Arts & Crafts Emporium on Sayyaji Rao Road, which is the Main shopping area. There are also many other craft shops on Dhanavanthri Road. Mysore silk is well known for its quality and everlasting lustre.
